Proxima Compass

The autonomous navigation system developed by Proxima Robotics to make any mobile vehicle smart, autonomous, and connected

Proxima Compass

Its modular and compatible design allows seamless integration into a wide variety of differential, omnidirectional, or car-like robots—even existing or in-production units.

Thanks to its containerized Docker architecture, Proxima Compass can be installed on any industrial PC running Ubuntu Server Linux.

Once installed, the system enables the vehicle to map the environment, localize itself in real time, plan transport missions, and move safely while avoiding static and dynamic obstacles.

Natural navigation with standard sensors

At the heart of Compass is a natural SLAM engine that uses data from planar LiDAR sensors (such as SICK, Datalogic, Pepperl+Fuchs, Hokuyo) to build maps and calculate the robot’s position—even in complex environments.

Communication and compatibility with any
robot

Compass is designed to be independent of the robot it is installed on. Communication with the vehicle takes place via standard buses (Ethernet, USB, serial) and protocols such as OPC-UA, ROS2, and REST APIs.
Once the vehicle’s kinematic parameters are defined (dimensions, locomotion type, turning radius), Compass automatically adapts, enabling precise motion control

The system supports both motor control protocols and integration with higher-level systems (ERP, MES, WMS). It is designed to interface with elevators, automatic doors, PLCs, and centralized fleet management systems, and is compatible with VDA5050—the emerging standard for communicationbetween robots and fleet management software.

Web interface, diagnostics, and remote operations

Configuration, monitoring, and mission management are handled through a no-code web interface accessible via browser. Compass provides intuitive tools for mapping, defining missions and waypoints,
and real-time monitoring of robots in action. Mission logs, error reports, and status files are stored and can be accessed remotely—even via VPN.

Advanced versions include remote control, automated software updates, advanced reporting, and support for visual docking using laser systems or visual tags.
